Spiritual Sketches: from the garden
Seeing Spiritual Lessons Everywhere
Have you ever noticed how the simplest things in life can reveal the deepest spiritual truths? I see spiritual lessons everywhere I look! When I’m walking with the Lord, it seems that all of creation and every situation can be viewed through a spiritual lens, offering a lesson to be learned.
The Power of Word Pictures
As a pastor, I love connecting theological ideas and Christian doctrine to everyday situations. I’m particularly fond of word pictures—when abstract spiritual lessons are grounded in daily life, they become easier to understand and apply. Jesus often used word pictures in His teachings, drawing from everyday life to instruct His disciples and followers.
Introducing “Spiritual Sketches”
Inspired by His example, I’ve decided to start a blog series called “Spiritual Sketches,” where I’ll use common situations in daily life to sketch spiritual lessons. To kick off this series, I’ll be sharing insights from the garden.
Lessons from the Garden
I started my garden in 2020, when the world shut down. I humorously called it my apocalypse garden. The real joke? I hate eating vegetables! But I love the process—preparing, planting, nurturing, growing, and harvesting. Since 2020, my garden has grown, my skills have improved, but my tastes have stayed the same. Over these last few years, as I’ve sweated in the garden, nurturing it and making mistakes along the way, I’ve learned a lot. More importantly, I’ve seen spiritual lessons from God’s Word take on new dimensions.
Join the Journey
So, join me weekly for “Spiritual Sketches: from the Garden.” I hope these reflections encourage your daily spiritual life. I’d love to hear your thoughts—share what you’ve learned in your own garden, or how these spiritual lessons resonate with you. Let’s grow together in faith!
